We offer training sessions to help you effectively use the technologies available at VSU. Classes are free to VSU employees, including student employees.

Web Editing

Cascade BasicThis training introduces features such as creating/editing pages, hyperlinks, images, and more through the university’s online web editor. The Basic class is mandatory for those who will be editing their departmental web site. This is also a good ‘refresher’ class for any who have already taken the Basic class.

Cascade Intermediate: Optional training that focuses on web editing functions such as tables, embedded video, and anchors. Required prerequisite: Cascade Basic Training.

Cascade Open Lab: This is an opportunity for those who have previously attended a Cascade training to come and receive one-on-one assistance with a specific task. This session should not be used as a Cascade Basic Training substitute. Participants can attend the open lab at any point within the session’s scheduled time. *For planning purposes, registration is recommended but not required. Prerequisite: Cascade Basic Training.

WordPress Intro: Not intended to replace MyPages for personal sites, WordPress is an alternate solution for faculty, staff, departments and student organizations who wish to create an independent blog or site. This training will cover how to request a site, basic WordPress functionality and features, and limitations.

Productivity

Creating Accessible Documents: Learn how to correctly format documents, add alt text, convert Word files to accessible PDFs, and run the accessibility checker to ensure that your documents are able to be read by everyone.

O365:OneDrive: As part of Office 365, all VSU faculty, staff, and students have access to Microsoft OneDrive--a password-protected cloud storage solution. Learn how to access, manage, store and share documents via OneDrive.

O365:Teams: As part of Office 365, Teams are collections of people, content, and tools that center around different projects and jobs within an organization. Learn how Teams members can have conversations and share files, notes, and more all in one place.

Excel 2013 Intro: Designed for those with little to no experience with Excel, participants will learn how to create and format worksheets, and calculate basic formulas.

Excel Formulas: Excel formulas can be used for simple additions or subtractions, as well as more complex calculations. This class will focus on basic formula structure, relative and absolute cell referencing; and commonly used formulas including VLookup and IF statements. Prerequisite: A solid understanding of basic Excel concepts.

Excel Charts: Learn how to make sense of your data by creating PivotTables—manually and automatically. This class is for advanced users of Excel.

Success Portal: Designed for use by faculty, advisors, and student support staff, the Portal is VSU’s powerful tool that provides messaging tools, interactive dashboards, and student profiles to assess student performance and risk indicators.

Phishing AwarenessLearn what the term “phishing” means and ways you can identify it in emails, websites, and even phone calls. You’ll also learn how to protect your personal information and computer files from malicious intentions.

ePro Technology Special Request

Smart Classroom (Online Tutorial): View this online tutorial if you need help using the technologies in our Smart classrooms--enabling projector privacy, hooking up your laptop or iPad, turning on the document camera and more. 
Hands-on training offered by request 

VoIP Phone: Designed to help you become familiar with the features of the new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone, this hands-on workshop will demonstrate tasks such as transferring calls and call forwarding; as well as introduce you to the instant messenger application called Jabber that integrates many of the phone features such as voicemail, conference chats/calls, and call history.
